RELEASE BY THE EMBASSY OF ARGENTINA IN SOUTH AFRICA
On June 13th 2020, South African Airways flight SAA 2952 departed from Johannesburg with destination to Buenos Aires with 81 Argentine citizens who were stranded in South Africa, Mozambique, Eswatini and Botswana after the closure of the borders disposed by the South African government due to the pandemic.
During their stay in these countries, the Argentine citizens received permanent assistance from all the Argentine consular representatives and diplomats. Those citizens who were in a vulnerable situation received the aid provided for in the "Assistance Programme for Argentines Abroad in the framework of the Coronavirus pandemic" created by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship.
The return flight to Argentina was made possible by the Department of International Relations and Cooperation of South Africa (DIRCO) and South African Airways (SAA) that took the initiative to organize repatriation flights to different parts of the world.
The Argentine Embassy thanks DIRCO and SAA for their coordination with this Embassy with whom they worked in close contact to make possible the return of our compatriots to Argentina.
