The first shipment of 1 million doses of foot-and-mouth disease vaccines, produced by the Argentine laboratory Biogénesis Bagó, arrived in Johannesburg On 21 February. The Embassy, in the context of its role as a promoter of Argentine exports, has worked over recent months by providing market information and facilitating contact with various key stakeholders.
With the immediate prospect of exporting an additional 5 million doses during the month of March, our country is contributing its technological development to contain an expanding outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease, a situation that led the South African government to declare a state of national disaster.
The procurement will enable the implementation of a comprehensive strategy to recover foot-and-mouth disease–free status with vaccination, and therefore the continuation of Argentine exports over time is anticipated.
