On February 21, the first shipment of 1 million doses of foot-and-mouth disease vaccines produced by the Argentine laboratory Biogénesis Bagó arrived in Johannesburg. 

With the immediate prospect of exporting 5 million additional doses during the month of March, the Argentine company contributes with its technology to support South Africa in the containment of an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in expansion, a situation that led the South African government to declare a state of national disaster. 

This Embassy worked together with the Argentine company throughout the last months, with the aim of completing the operation. 

The acquisition will enable South Africa to implement a comprehensive strategy to recover its FMD free status with vaccination, thus ensuring the continuity of Argentine exports over time.
