JOB RECRUITING
The Trade and Economic Section of the Embassy of Argentina in South Africa is recruiting for one local vacancy on a temporary contract ending on15th March 2014 to contribute to the Embassy’s economic and trade reporting. The contract may be extended subject to availability of funds and will be reviewed in March 2014.
The successful candidate should be able to start the 14th October 2013.

The successful candidate will work in the Argentine Trade and Economic Section working closely with Embassy colleagues, the Deputy head of Mission and the Ambassador. He/she will be expected to interact in a credible way with senior contacts in Government, private sector, and academia / think-tanks, from Argentina, and the following countries: South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique; Zimbabwe; Zambia; Mauritius; Swaziland; and Lesotho.
1. Description of job, duties and responsibilities
The post offers the opportunity to work in a relevant role in one of the Argentine’s key African Embassies. The incumbent will be responsible for delivering reporting on a range of investment, trade and economic issues.
This will demand rapid, insightful, succinct reporting and analysis of the positions of key players. Technical knowledge will be essential. Excellent communication skills, especially written English, will also be a core requirement. Knowledge of Spanish will be preferential.
Networking and relationship management will be essential skills, since the candidate will need to develop and extend existing contacts in the Southern Africa Region.
The role will demand flexibility, initiative, and adaptability to changing priorities. This will require juggling short-term priorities while making progress on longer term goals.
2. Key skills
The ideal candidate will have:
- A graduate-level qualification –or an advanced student- in economics / international relations/marketing or a related discipline would be desirable.
- There is no need to demonstrate significant previous experience
- Proficiency in English and ability to communicate effectively and concisely both orally and in writing. Knowledge of Spanish/Portuguese will be preferential.
3. Terms and Conditions
- The contract is for approximately 6 months with a possibility of renewal dependent upon continued funding, and future requirement for the work undertaken.
- The monthly gross starting salary is of 12,000, for a schedule of 5 hours (during afternoons).
- The job is based in Pretoria.
- Confirmation of appointment is subject to security clearance and the satisfactory completion of a three-month probation period.
- Staff recruited locally by the Argentine Embassy in South Africa are subject to terms and conditions of service according to local employment law.
