REGRESAR

African School of Humanitarian Forensic Action

The Embassy of Argentina in South Africa, together with the Argentine Horizontal Cooperation Fund, co-sponsored the first African School of Humanitarian Forensic Action organized by the Argentine Forensic Anthropology Team (EAAF) with the support of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
The three week course was hosted by the Department of Forensic Medicine at the University of Pretoria in August 2016 and was attended by twelve delegates from several African countries such as Burundi, Eritrea, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa and Zimbabwe.
The delegates attend classes and engage in practical activities on best practice to improve the humanitarian actions in cases of mass fatalities. Luis Fondebrider, Director of the EAAF, pointed out that 'It is a privilege to be able to share our extensive experience from Argentina and other countries to help expand this critical network of professionals throughout Africa; 'Building the capacity of dedicated African forensics professionals on the latest techniques and approaches will allow more cases to be resolved without resorting to external support'.
