Book Presentation: “DANCE TANGO. MECHANICS OF THE EMBRACE”

Last Sunday February 23rd, we had the pleasure to enjoy the presentation of the book “Dance Tango. Mechanics of the Embrace”, by Argentine artist and tango instructor Andrea Uchitel.

The presentation took place at the Argentine Association in South Africa, and was followed by a traditional Argentine asado.

The book is a manual that invites readers into today’s world of tango and provides them with tools for dancing.

It is a learning resource that complements any approach to dancing tango.

Andrea is a tango teacher of the young generation of milongueros. She studied and worked with renowned maestros milongueros and has taught both roles in Buenos Aires and around the world since 2002.

She is a certified Alexander Technique teacher and a tango dancer and teacher with over 20 years of experience, researcher in movement arts and somatic education.

From a powerful intersection of milonga tradition and body practices for health, where Alexander Technique and Contact Improvisation occupy a central place, Andrea developed her teaching approach “Mechanics of the Embrace” proposal, to facilitate the use of the body to dance Tango. This exploration uses anatomical, sensory and kinetic information to link technical aspects with the essence of social tango.

Andrea holds a PhD in Biology as well.
